Bussey Arena was built in 1978 and was originally named Brother O’Hehir Arena. Over the last several years it had fallen into disrepair and it was rumored that local business interests were looking to obtain the property, tear down the rink and construct condominiums. During this time period, Dave Bussey decided that the local hockey community would suffer greatly with the loss of the Arena, and set about to acquire the property. It was Dave’s quest to ensure that the Arena was kept as a hockey rink, and in particular a home for local minor hockey.
In May 2012, Dave Bussey completed the purchase of the Arena and the extensive renovations and upgrades began. We have renovated dressing rooms, bathrooms and showers. New lighting, low-e ceiling, boards, safely netting, sound system, skate sharpening room, canteen and entrance. We topped it all off with a brand new Zamboni, a team of experienced employees to serve our patrons. We think the outcome is spectacular, and by seeing the smiles on the faces of hockey players, parents and spectators – others do as well!!
Dave is very happy to have been given the opportunity to save the Arena and are excited to have lots of great hockey played here for years to come. Please drop by for a visit, all are welcome!
